Abstract

Conservation of biodiversity is one of the pressing global challenges of the modern world. One of the top priorities in this endeavor is to raise awareness about rare and endangered plants on the brink of extinction, and to implement protective measures. The rare aquatic flora found in the Ural River valley within the West Kazakhstan region holds significant biological and ecological importance. Some of these plants are included in the Green Book of the West Kazakhstan region but require further research. Of particular interest is the relic plant from the Tertiary period — Salvinia natans L., a floating fern. This article offers a concise overview of the biological and ecological characteristics of this relic species.
